Hit the spot 和 hit the high spot 的分别
Hit the spot 即是 be perfect, 意为恰到好处；在谈及饮食时，则表示 be delicious,意为“好好食”，例如：
I'd like to watch TV, and NYPD Blue would hit the spot.
我很想看电视，《纽约重案组》正中下怀。
I seldom eat fish, but your salmon in lemon sauce really hit the spot with me tonight.
我很少食鱼，但今晚你烹制的檸檬汁三文鱼实在太美味了。
Hit the high spots 即 see the most interesting places, 或 mention the most important points, 意为 “选择有趣的地方(观光)” 或 “讲要点”，例如：
I spent a month in USA hitting the high sports.
我在美国一个月，选择有兴趣(热门)的名胜参观。
We have only thirty minutes. Please hit the high spots.
我们只有三十分钟时间，请说要点。
Main line 即 the principal railway line between two places, 意为铁路干线。而在美国，另外还可解作公路干线。
Main line (或连写 mainline ),又可视作 inject (a drug) into a vain, 意为静脉注射(毒品)。
Main line 或是指 rich people,或 celebrity,意为富人，或名流。作此解时，二字均可大写，例如：
Jack is so young and handsome and so popular with the Main Line.
傑克年青又英俊，且獲得上流社会的尝识。
说到 main line 表示人，顺便介绍一些含有 main 的其他类似用法。
1. Main man (or main queen), 即 the best friend, 或 boyfriend (or girlfriend) 意为老朋友，或男(女)朋友，例如：
Jack is my main man.
傑克是我最要好的朋友 (和我最老友)。
Jack has been her main man for three years.
三年来，傑克一直是她的情人。
2. Main squeeze 即 boss 或 lover，意为老闆， 或情人。
Mr.White is the main squeeze in this office.
白先生是此写字楼的老闆。
Jack's main squeeze is a girl from China.
傑克的情人是中国的女人
关於“与其说，不如说”的句式，大体上有二种译法，现举例说明：
与其说他是科学家，不如 (毋宁) 说他是艺术家。
与其说他是总统，不如说他是傀儡可译为：
由此可见，译法很简单，但这里要提出两点讨论。
(一) 在第一种句式中，rather than 是表示客观上的差异。
若从主观出发，rather than 就表示“宁愿这样而(也)不原意那样”，例如：
I would rather stay at home than go to the park.
我宁愿(宁可)留在家中，而不愿去公园。
亦可使用动词 perfer,例如：
I perfer to work rather than remain idle.
(使用 perfer 时 ，其后第二个动词不定式常可省去 to,因此不必写成 to remain)
我宁愿工作，也不愿游手好闲。
(二) 遇到第二种句式，如 He is more an artist than a scientist,千万不可译为“他是艺术家比科学家更多些”。
Stand pat 即 not make a move, 或 maintain someone's present position, 或 sit tight, 意为不动摇，或坚持，或我行我素，例如：
Jack's friends tried to change his mind, but he stood pat.
一些朋友想要杰克改变主意，他却我行我素。
Stand pat 后面可跟介词 on，例如:
President Bush stands pat on war.
布殊总统坚持其开战决定
While some of his colleagues disagreed, Dr.Johnson stood pat on his original diagnosis.
尽管他一些同事不同意，约翰遜医生坚持其原来的诊断。
另外，亦表示在玩一种啤牌时不再要牌 (或不换新牌)，例如：
No more cards for me, I'll stand pat.
我不要牌，就拿这手牌啦。
